“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).

Get into the Word and stand firm! Oddly enough, I think this is an exciting time to live.

I do indeed believe that there is a remnant rising, but it was never intended to usher in some Golden Age of Christ; that won’t happen until He returns. I won’t get into why now, but it was always an idolatrous notion.

God has long since made the truth plain for anyone wiling to see, and the reactions to yesterday’s unrest from members of our political class confirm. I do not know to what degree the unrest was planned and coordinated, but I’m confident that it will be exploited. There are bad apples in every bunch, but things are not as they are being portrayed.

As for me, I will be at peace and repent, fast and pray, and love my neighbor, even if I find my neck at the edge of the axman’s blade. Jesus didn’t overcome the Roman Empire by the sword, although that’s what many anticipated, but rather, His Spirit spread through evangelism and martyrdom. Kingdom over self. Kingdom over nation. Why do we hold so tightly to a world that isn’t even our home?

“So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter” (2 Thessalonians 2:15).

“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Matthew 10:22).

From my Bible commentary on 2 Thessalonians 3:6:

3:6 It seems clear that some of the saints at Thessalonica had stopped working for a living because they were so intently waiting for the Lord’s return. Paul does not encourage this as a spiritual attitude, but proceeds to give definite instructions as to how to deal with such brethren.
