“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21).

Jean-Luc Picard was on to something here, and it’s not at all Socialism; it reflects a voluntary shift of the heart. My prayer is while the American church is busy repenting and meditating on 2 Chronicles 7.14, it addresses elephants that have been in the room (some) for centuries.

“The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.”

Sounds a lot like something Jesus would say and did say.

We’ve been calling evil good and good evil long before some of the cultural developments of the past few election cycles. No, we’re not in a season of sowing, we’re in a season of reaping. I’d think out of all of the self proclaimed prophets running around out there, and others who are supposedly so in tune with the Spirit of God, that more would be presenting a fuller counsel… few are, in fact.

“After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite: ‘My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has’” (Job 42:7).

Job’s friends found out that truth applied at the wrong time, in the wrong way, or in the wrong spirit is not truth at all, despite that much or all of their advice was not unbiblical.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

The Left has hijacked social justice to advance a political agenda and made the discussion largely one sided. In response, the Right has in many ways rejected the whole conversation. No wonder scripture warns us to be on our guard and likens Satan to a ferocious lion on the prowl (1 Peter 5:8). Both sides are wrong.
