“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).

I can see Satan’s handiwork from a mile away, so let’s not get caught up in yet another snare, because we know the enemy comes to divide and conquer, with the help of willing allies. It took some searching, but I finally found this thoughtful and well written post by a school teacher.

Here is what she wrote:

First all the unrest precipitated by the videos of the George Floyd arrest, with additional never seen before dash came footage that supposedly offers us a twist, then we the extent of human trafficking blows up in our faces, including the disturbing prevalence of child rape, bits and pieces here about all the innocent children getting shot inner city neighborhoods like in Chicago, and now,

My heart hurts. I have been in my classroom this week setting it up eagerly anticipating that maybe one day this school year perhaps my students will get to see it. I’m excited for the challenge of 7th grade- everything from cells to ecosystems I am ready.

Now back to the hurt. To say 2020 sucks is an understatement. I can deal with the pandemic, I can deal with the silly politics, and the social justice movements, but what I can’t deal with, what hurts my heart is the intentional deaths of children at the hands of evil adults. Secoriea, Zamar, Cannon and countless others who won’t get the chance to sit in 7th grade science and talk about cells, genetics, laugh at my pointless jokes, they won’t play soccer or try football or wrestling, they want have their first crush, wonder about planets, go to their first homecoming game or prom. Their parents have been robbed of the moments of graduation, first cars, and looking back at baby pictures and marveling at how time flies.

The problem is sin and evil comes in all colors. I promise when I see my “kids” that I will do my best to remember that it could just as easily be Secoriea, Zamar, and Cannon sitting there. I will work hard, answer all their questions, and remind myself that each and every kid is precious and they matter. I will be that light for them and I will let them know that they matter and are valued. I will pray for them each day and I will pray for the families who have lost children to unspeakable acts of evil.

Satan isn’t even trying to hide anymore, and what does that really say about the children of God?

My condolences and prayers to the family of Cannon Hinnant, as well as to the families of all the children who’s lives have been cut short. I am really at a loss for words today.
