“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
I am picking up tonight where I left off with Unintentional Apostasy. If you haven’t already done so, please take time to click/press the link, and read the post in order to gain a fuller picture.
Nothing in any of the dreams, visions, or words, which I receive by the Holy Spirit, is new; the Bible is already written, and God has always spoken to me through, and according to, his Word. He does not add to his Word, nor does God take away. Much of what he shares is hard to receive; my comfort zone… what comfort zone? My heart is gravely troubled, and has been now for many years. God has and continues to reveal a great apostasy stretching its tentacles, throughout the church, like yeast working through dough, a great lie is permeating among the people of God. A lie that has given root to numerous other lies. I don’t yet have the words to articulate what I’ve been shown in its entirety, and when I do, I’m doubtful the message will be well received by most. Watch the news sometime, the enemy is attacking the church on all fronts; we can’t afford to be biting and devouring one another; that has to stop. Therefore, not a thing I’m saying here should come as any surprise.
The heretical teachings to which I am referring largely fall under the guise of spiritual warfare and intercession, and entail interacting with entities believed to be angels of God, or even one’s own spirit person, or I’ve also heard the term “spirit-man” used, but in reality, these entities are demonic; a practice tantamount to consorting with a spirit guide, which is central to the New Age and the Occult. Among the bitter fruits of this teaching is worship given over to disorder, which prevents the building up of fellow believers, with one’s own edification prized at the expense of the instruction and encouragement of fellow believers. A self-centered, not God centered, culture, in which pride is disguised as humility, and the counsel of the Holy Spirit is relegated to extreme emotional responses and guttural, physical utterings. Again the similarities to pagan worship reveal themselves. Sadly, I know of many people, who I love and respect, people who I believe genuinely love of the Lord, who have been taken captive by this false form of spirituality. I don’t expect to make any friends with this post.
The Holy Spirit led me to a church many years ago, which bore the bitter fruits of this theology, and I wrote about one experience, during a special prayer service in These Little Ones. The following is an excerpt:
There was one evening when the church was having a special prayer service. As was customary, and seemingly, on cue, even, the room exploded with people speaking in tongues, or what some, I think, called their Spirit language, but in any event, the room broke down into pandemonium. I remember observing a man, I had never seen there before, sitting holding his head in his hands in his lap distressed. To the best of my recollection, not one of these, self-proclaimed, mighty men and women of God, could be bothered to approach him, and eventually he left; they simply went on like clanging cymbals. Too often, we either misuse what has been given to us from above, or we reject the gifts all together. “In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14). So what of these little ones? Do we not realize these little ones aren’t just children in body but in spirit as well?
“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way” (1 Corinthians 14:39-40). It saddens my heart that so many Christians have given up on the gifts of the Spirit of God, while so many others are unknowingly engaging other spirits not of God. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus: “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18). Moreover, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8). I praise and thank God for choosing me to bear his truth, and what’s more, for the great privilege of proclaiming it to others. Therefore, let us stop looking for some great deception to unfold in the world, because the fact the world is deceived is not breaking news. Instead, let us seek, truly, the Holy Spirit and learn from him. Let us take heed of Paul’s warning to the Ephesians, the epistle so frequently referenced with regard to spiritual warfare, and be alert to the deception within our own ranks.

I am not the most eloquent writer, and as I’ve confessed repeatedly, I am neither a teacher nor a preacher; I am not a learned theologian; I am no one special (in of myself). But despite my many weaknessnes and shortcomigns, I implore each and every one of you that God has revealed an urgent message for his people, and all I want to do is my heavenly Father’s will, because although I may not know you personally, I do love you. Seek the Father in prayer, pour through scripture, and test everything. Finally, anyone willing to throw a prayer or two or three my way, I will receive them with gladness; I truly need them. I have a feeling this blog is a first step in the work God has prepared in advance for me to do. God bless!
