“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8).

I don’t recall the precise moment in which I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, but I will never forget the scripture through which he spoke to me for the very first time. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8). I discovered that sinners never find themselves; they’re found by the redeeming love of God. Heaven’s highest joy will undoubtedly be that of rejoicing over the lost that has been found in Christ Jesus. This takes me back.

There have been many hardships along the way, and I have stumbled, and continue to stumble, but God is faithful (Philippians 2:13) changing me from within. In my spirit, I cried out to God, but in my flesh, I resisted; a passive aggressive struggle. But I take heart in that I was called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28), so who or what can prevail against those God has justified in Christ (Romans 8:31; 8:35-39)? I truly believe this life is the unfolding of a divine revelation (Matthew 13:24-30); the physical reality in which we live is nothing more than a brief flicker in time surrounded by forces not yet fully revealed.

Sometimes I wish my life was an unfailing witness of wisdom, strength and grace, but that’s not how life works, at least not mine. Life takes a heavy toll; people can take an even heavier toll. I don’t consider myself any less of a Christian to confess weakness, and I’m grateful to serve a God who is able to empathize. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:15-16). I’m willing to bet that there’s at least one other person out there who can relate in some way, and to them I say, “You’re not alone. Keep up the good fight, whatever it may be, because he has already won the battle; he has already won the war”. I think Hebrews 4:15-16 is quickly joining the ranks of my favorite scripture passages.

I’ve wanted to record my spiritual journey in the Lord for some time, and now my heart delights in the undertaking ahead; a labor of love. Jesus has opened my eyes and my heart. What a strange and wonderful feeling. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). God has called me to bear witness to his unfathomable love by sharing my walk with Christ, not from the perspective of a righteous man, but from that of a sinner who has found redemption.
